Description

As with all Ferrari special series, the 458 Speciale is characterised by a range of technical innovations that affect all areas, from combustion to volumetric and mechanical efficiency. The model achieved specific power values that made an indelible mark in the history of naturally aspirated road engines.

The exceptional nature of the V8 rear mid-engine with its displacement of 4,497 cc can be summed up in two figures - 605 hp and 9,000 rpm. This makes it the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine ever produced in Maranello for a street-legal car. The specific output is 135 hp/l, a world record for a naturally aspirated engine in a road car.

Thanks to the improvement of the entire vehicle, an exceptional power-to-weight ratio of 2.13 kg/hp was achieved, giving the Speciale unique performance: 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds (0 to 200 km/h in 9.1 seconds) and a record lap time of 1:23.5 minutes on the Fiorano circuit.
