A superb example of the rare open-top, hand-crafted supercar, presented with low mileage and an interesting Hollywood provenance. It is powered by a mid-mounted Audi 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8, delivering 400bhp to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. This C8 Spyder was the 16th to be built and, as an early model, features the desirable ‘propeller’ steering wheel. It is one of only five models to feature the extra air intake for the engine, as well as a detachable fabric roof.
This very car was used in the production of the film ‘War’ starring Jason Statham and Jet Li, and has been signed by former Spyker CEO, Victor Muller. It was originally registered in Belgium.
Equipment and features
The dramatically designed C8 Spyder features gullwing doors, exposed gear lever and pedal linkages, aircraft-inspired details inside and out, a clamshell front end with pushrod suspension, and a quilted leather-trimmed rear storage compartment. This example is finished in silver metallic over an extended red leather-trimmed interior, with diamond quilting on the transmission tunnel, footwells and seat faces, debossed Spyker logos on the seats’ headrests, and engine-turned aluminium trim across the dashboard and centre console. The car also has the longer soft top hood with fabric extending as 'buttresses' rearwards, which is more sought-after than the later shorter hood. It rides on the correct set of 19-inch ‘Aeroblade’ alloy wheels, with powerful AP Racing brake callipers behind.
In the cabin, there are toggle switches for the ABS system, lights, wipers, and air-conditioning system.
The metallic silver paintwork is in good overall condition, The alloy wheels are in very good order, with only a few minor imperfections around their rims. Moving inside, the original red leather upholstery can be described as being in excellent condition, with only minor perceptible wear on the steering wheel, in the passenger footwell, and on the wind deflector. There are no known mechanical or electrical faults.
The car was last serviced in 2022 including belts, replacement tyres, a comprehensive inspection included air con, fuel tank removal and cleaning, all lubrications were refreshed, the car tuned and brakes replaced by the Spyker Enthusiast workshop in the Netherlands. The full documentation is available. Prior the C8 was serviced in October 2021 at 27,442 kilometres. In February 2017 at 22,410 kilometres, an engine oil and filter change took place, as well as an air-conditioning service.
The Spyker C8 Spyder is a truly unique and idiosyncratic supercar, boasting many unusual aircraft-inspired styling features including exposed gear lever and pedal mechanisms, an engine-turned aluminium dashboard, and a propeller-style steering wheel. Finished in a striking silver and red colour scheme, and previously featured in a Jason Statham and Jet Li-fronted action film, this example would make a fine addition to a collection of rare supercars, and is sure to attract plenty of attention whenever it takes to the open road.
